Movements in the port of Recife

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the movements of the Port of Recife over the last three years, and to evaluate the various dimensions and statistics, such as the relationship between the port and the city of Recife, the relationship between the Port of Recife and the Suape Port Complex, as well as the dynamics of import and export in the national territory. Method: Using a quantitative methodology, sources of documents available on the port's website, which are reliable secondary data, in addition to an interview that provided the qualitative context for interpreting the numerical data. Results and conclusion: The Port of Recife moves products such as soda ash, fertilizers, iron/steel/alloys, wheat, barley malt, sugar (bulk and bags), ethanol, petroleum derivatives and general cargo. This movement occurs through full cargo, import and export operations, operating in long-haul navigation, cabotage and Mercosur. Another relevant factor is the relationship of interdependence and complementarity between the Suape Port Complex and the Port of Recife. Implications of the research: In this context, micro-level planning can be decisive for the construction of a port sector that meets needs and maintains good levels of quality. Originality/value: Regarding the current circumstances of the Port of Recife, together with the rapid expansion of world trade, a major logistical challenge is presented, requiring that the port infrastructure and public services be efficient and competitive.
